Born in Nablus 1934; early education at An-Najah School, Nablus, then pursued higher education in the field of Petro-Geology in Texas, US; graduated with an MA and began a successful career, establishing large enterprises in various countries around the world. In 1970, became Cabinet Minister in Jordan. Returned to Nablus after the signing of the Oslo Accords; became member of the Palestinian Central Council, director of the Palestinian Development and Investment Co. (PADICO) in Nablus, and deputy chairman at the Palestine Investment Fund (PIF). Has been involved in establishing the Al-Quds University Investment Fund; member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Quds University; chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sakakini Cultural Center, Ramallah; (co-)sponsor of a number of academic and charitable organizations in Nablus, incl. helping in the establishment of the Engineering and Technology College at An-Najah University (named after him). Member of the Board of Trustees of the American University in Beirut (AUB). Initiated Nablus Rehabilitation Committee during the second Intifada (since Sept. 2000), aimed at rebuilding houses destroyed by the Israeli army); established the EDGO Management Group, serving as its Board Chairman. Politically seen as a moderate and an Arafat confidante; was traded as a candidate for the position of PA Prime Minister in March 2003
